5 WAYS TO ENJOY MUSIC WITH YOUR KIDS

Music plays an important part in our lives, and we all love to sing during our car drives, kitchen dance parties, and on many more occasions. If you are also an avid music lover and your kids are taking an online music theory course, we suggest below 5 ways to enjoy music as a family.

1. Family karaoke: whether you love it or hate it, karaoke can be a true learning experience for kids. It teaches you about reading lyrics, performing for an audience, waiting their turn, learning to respect others’ performances, and much more. If you are not too shy to get on stage and perform before your kids, then they will witness your love for music, see that mom or dad makes mistakes, laughs, and carries on.

2. Making it a game: The second popular way to enjoy music as a family is to play games like, name the tune or name the artist, e.g., play a new song and one who names the artist first will win the game. So making music a game amongst your blended family not only makes it the best activity but also develops their interest in online music theory courses. Rather than just serving as background noise, music becomes an integrated part of your family’s life requiring attention, memory, and close listening.

3. Take music lessons with your kid: The benefits of taking music lessons with your kid are many, and taking lessons with your kid is probably one of the best creative bonding experiences you can share which you will never regret.

4. Family concert night: If your kid is a bit of a ham, this will be no problem, and if they shy away from performing their instrument before the family, it is suggestible that you too perform with them irrespective of if you haven’t played the piano for long. Start singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star while shaking a jar of popcorn or bang out your best, take it lightly and have fun. This will encourage your kid to follow your lead.

5. Life is a musical: If your kid is a big talker or talks faster than he/she could form words, saying things in singing more also encourages him/her to follow you and reply backwards saying things in singing. This requires a bit of musical spontaneity on your part, but you can borrow the melody of any tune that you both know. Gradually this becomes a game which in turn helps channel your kid’s chatty energy. It will set the pace and encourages to form words to fit into a tune and that too by playing just another silly game.

A little effort from an online music teacher and a little effort from yourself can make your kid a more confident, avid learner, as well as a happier child.
