5 VOCAL TRAINING TIPS FOR BEGINNERS

Vocal training is the key to becoming a great singer. Practicing vocal exercises on a daily basis will help you train your vocal cords and improve your breath control, increasing your stamina, range, and quality of your singing voice. Vocal training includes some prerequisites such as warm-ups, vocal exercises, and more, which are explained below:

  1. Warm-up properly - When we start doing any physical activity, a good warm-up is necessary. Similarly, you should never skip the warm-up session, whether it is singing, dancing, exercising, swimming, or any other activity. So, before you start singing, don’t forget to warm up properly. Doing warm-up exercises will prevent you from having vocal injuries and enhance your vocal sound. During voice training lessons, the teacher guides you and tells you to practice vowel sounds and notice the shape of your mouth while practicing.

  2. Practice breathing exercises- Becoming a good singer is not a one-day thing; it requires a lot of practice. One of the essential things you should practice is breathing exercises. In this, you should focus and breathe from your diaphragm instead of your chest or throat. Having control of your breath helps you manage the vibration of your vocal folds and the expanding capacity of your lungs. It is a well-known trick suggested by professionals.

  3. Record your voice- One of the easiest ways to train and improve your voice is by recording it. Every professional will tell you to record your voice, listen to it, and compare it with the original one. If you find your weak points, you can take some extra time and work on those areas. If you do this continuously for one week, you will feel the difference in your voice.

  4. Hire a vocal coach- Most professional musicians say that they didn’t hire a music coach or join any music school. They came to this level on their own, which motivates an individual to learn music on their own. But, from my point of view, a music coach is your well-wisher and guides you in your music journey. During your online private music lessons, he can teach you different vocal techniques, pinpoint your mistakes, and help you improve them.

  5. Don’t sing if it hurts- If your throat hurts while singing, you should get the hint that something is wrong and stop singing. There must be some infection or other problem in your throat, so you should give yourself a vocal rest and allow your throat to become normal. Pushing yourself and singing continuously might make the problem more significant, affecting you in the long term. So, instead of pushing yourself, take some rest, drink lots of warm water, avoid cold drinks and spicy or sour foods, and get the proper amount of sleep.
