6 STEPS TO IMPROVE YOUR SONGWRITING SKILLS

Writing a song is a challenging task, but it can become easier only if you put all your time and hard work into it. When we say "put your time in," we mean dedicating one hour per day to songwriting, and you will see the progress in the second week of practice. Most people get confused. They can't find out what they should do. From where should they start? What should they write in the hour? So try experimenting with these enlisted steps.

  1. Work in groups rather than alone- Surround yourself with creative people in the same field. Meet people with the same taste, listen to their work, their ideas, their experience, and if possible, collaborate with them. Working together will provide you with more ideas. You will learn more from them.

  2. Learn the basics- Many people don't need any teachers; they learn things by themselves, but you can say God endows them. But if you want to be an expert in any field, you must know its basics. You must get the proper knowledge. The same thing applies to songwriters. It does not matter how good the lyrics are. If you are a beginner, you must take songwriting lessons or get admission to a music college or school.

  3. Object writing- Look around your room and choose any object as your topic. Start writing every thought that comes into your mind related to that object. Observe the object, the sound, smell, texture, and taste. Yes, you heard it correctly. Once you learn to investigate things, you will observe things and emotions more quickly than the average person.

  4. Record a melody- sometimes we come up with some brilliant ideas, lyrics, and tunes, and if you don't save them or write them down, then you will never remember them again. So it is better if you record it and save it before you lose it. Masterpieces are created from raw pieces. Practice these raw lyrics with instruments and it will help you in the process.

  5. Daydream- Whether you agree or disagree, we all have daydreamed and made fake scenarios once in our lives. But did you know that it was going to help you so much as a songwriter? Writing an actual story into lyrics is not that difficult but using your imagination in your song is definitely a go for a songwriter. Allow yourself 10 to 15 minutes to let your imagination run wild, then write it down on a piece of paper. Later, you will see some fantastic lines on the paper. You have to put them into a song.

  6. Study and Recreate: We enjoy studying and recreating things that inspire us. Whether it's an outfit, a movie dialogue, or a song, you must have your favorite songs and your favorite lyricists as a songwriter. So pick your favorite song, learn it, learn the notes, study how he made that song, practice it, and try to recreate it with your creativity. Take some voice training lessons, which will help you learn different notes and songs.
