When it comes to emotions, no one wants to feel sad or low, but we cannot be happy all the time because it is life. Now, many of us listen to sad music, through which we get in touch with our emotions. So, those sad songs play an essential role in the music industry and are a significant part of the culture. Writing a sad song and giving it to the audience can easily make you famous. Of course, it should be good enough to gain some attention, and in this article, we enlist some steps or tips that can help you in the writing process.

  1. Learn how songs are composed- Songs are made up of three things, verses, choruses, and lyrics. The song's verses have different lyrics but the same melody, whereas the chorus is repeated three or four times with the same melody and lyrics. A chorus is used to sum up, the main points of a song. There are many other parts in the songwriting process, but these three will give you directions as a beginner. So, take some song writing lessons and get familiar with these parts of songs, as it will improve your basics as a songwriter.

  2. Listen to your favorite sad songs- Before entering any field, you need a person as your mentor or as your inspiration who can give you directions and creative ideas. When you need a mentor, it doesn't count your friends, parents, or family members. It refers to someone in the same field who has inspired you. Listen to your favorite sad song. It can be a breakup song, a song about death, losing someone, and so on. Listen to the songs and ask yourself which line or paragraph of the song makes you sad, which type of words have been used in the song, and in which format the lyrics have been written? Your mind will get more creative and will know how you are going to write your song by the end.

  3. Setting lyrics to music- Returning to the above point, listen to different sad songs and find out which note and chord the writers used. Play your favorite sad song on an instrument, which will help you compose your melody. If you don't know how to play the instruments, take some private music lessons or get help from a friend who knows how to play instruments. After learning the instrument and studying various sad songs, play your instrument as you mouth your lyrics and find the chords and keys to match the song. It will take some practice and some time, but it will be worth it in the end. Try to keep your melody simple. Use basic chords and notes. Then, sing your song and record it for family and friends' feedback in the end. It will take some time to get the perfect song, but you will get it with hard work.
