LEARNING SMOOTH TRANSITION AND MIXED VOICE SINGING

Whenever we listen to our favourite singer songs, we wonder how natural and smooth their voice is, what a stable and robust sound they have, and how they sing so effortlessly. Becoming a good singer requires correct learning and good practice. If you are also desirous of becoming successful but wondering how to proceed, you can enrol for voice training lessons and make your dream come true.

Learning smooth transition and mixed voice singing are two crucial aspects of music. Let us briefly discuss both of them.

SMOOTH TRANSITIONS

Transition comprises of fundamental aspects of vocal techniques that help in making shifts between vocal registers, some of which are:

  • Airflow - Vocal training teaches singers the concepts of "support", "breath energy", and "resistance". You have to adjust the airflow appropriately to have a controlled flow of air while singing.

  • Internal space adjustment - Untrained singers cannot make adjustments within their throat as trained singers do. They change the positions of their jaw, tongue, and soft palate quickly, which helps them while singing. Music lessons teach untrained singers to lift the soft palate before singing a higher note, creating more space for the sound. In the beginning, while singing higher notes, you will feel the sensation of your voice getting stuck there. Internal space adjustment helps the singer sing comfortably during the higher parts of the vocal range.

  • Alignment - Correct posture and physical alignment are two essential aspects that affect your singing capabilities. Wrong posture can cause tension in our bodies, which can have an adverse effect on our singing sound. Some beginners support their jaw and tongue instead of air, making the transitions more challenging. So it is crucial to work on its alignments.

MIXED VOICE SINGING

While singing low notes, we feel a vibration from the mouth to the chest. On the other hand, we feel vibrations from our mouth to our head while singing the high notes. Mixed voice singing is a mix of your head voice and chest voice. Musical range growth takes time, effort, and a better understanding of the physical workings of the voice. Many voice trainers extol the benefits of "mixed voice" singing, but few can explain it clearly. We'll look at the origins of the word and what it signifies in terms of vocal technique. Two crucial aspects of mixed voiced singing are:

  • Vocal Registers- By adjusting the location of our mouth, tongue, and jaw, one can modify the shape and tone of the notes. When the pitch rises from our chest to our head, the vibration also rises towards the head cavities. If not trained well, you might not be able to sing well.

Passaggio- It is an Italian word that means "passage." It describes the transition area occurring between the head voice and the chest voice. With private music lessons, one can easily get trained well and sing without difficulty.
